St. Philip grew up in the city of Florence in a very poor family. His father who was a prosperous merchant later took care of him. In his search to find the best way to serve God, he left his career as a merchant and became a lay apostle in Rome. For many years he instructed the youth, preached as well as doing duties of a layman. He entered the seminary and as he thought it would be best to serve his fellow priest. His zeal, joy and holiness when he was a priest helped thousands of people to live the true gospel life.

Despite his wisdom and education was simple and glowing, soul was still full of youth even in his honorable old age.
