Thesis: Database
design is the most sensitive and technical aspect
used in any database system, as the effective
and efficient functioning of the whole system
is dependent on the database designed of that
very system
Introduction
Database is basically a system of programs, which
excel at managing and manipulating the structured
information on a computer. Basically all these
database programs are different Database Management
systems used for one or another purpose but the
goal is same, which is to serve information technology
at its best. For instance Microsoft Access, DB2,
Oracle, SQL, Power Builder etc are some examples
of database. Therefore, the collection of information
stored into one file or many separate files are
known as database.
Oracle Database Design
However, while designing a database program one
needs to be very well calculated regarding foundations
and structure of the database program. At the
same time, if a quality performance monitor is
added to the database design, it can help in identifying
the errors. On the other hand the intelligent
data-modeling tool helps to control the product
and suggest necessary remedy according to the
situation.
Oracle is a database program, which serves information
technology by various means of storing and managing
data. Oracle program keep on modifying for ensuring
the most advance information technology resulting
in a more powerful database. Oracle 8 is one of
the extensions of Oracle database, which is designed
in a more advanced manner. It supports both the
object-relational data types as well as the nontraditional
data types programs anticipated by network computing
as well as other databases.
Therefore, Oracle 8 is a database designed in
such a manner where a variety of compound data
types are supported. It allows many functions
at the same time into one single database. On
the other hand the primary focus of Oracle 8 is
to extend the performance of its flagship database
by augmenting its scalability and availability.
Basically the designers of oracle 7 realized the
flaws in it, so while designing Oracle 8, they
made some important changes in the very structure
of oracle database.
At the same time while designing the oracle, the
amount of memory that the system requires was
increased as compared to the previous oracle.
Moreover, it has also decreased the load, which
occurs on the system due to the software. Another
important feature designed while making the oracle
is its ability to separate the database allowing
the DBA to break up tables into multiple partitions
logically at the same time physically controlling
the location of each table separated.
However, oracle database design also allows a
larger number of users supported by the database
along a more effective manager processor threads.
This results in an increase speed to benefiting
the over all performance of the database. Furthermore,
it is designed to support incremental backup by
adding plain old functionality to the database
oracle. However, this new feature added to the
oracle decreases the amount of backup data due
to the reason that only modified blocks are written
to the achieves.
Conclusion
Database design is a very technical as well as
sensitive aspect of information technology as
the functioning of the whole database system is
dependent on the designing of any specific database.
Therefore, the designers and manufactures of various
databases keep on modifying and extending their
databases every year to ensure the effective working
of that very database. Oracle 8 is one of example
discussed in this paper, which is an extended
database program of Oracle. However, presently
it also contains many flaws, which might be removed
while designing another advanced extension of
the database program.
