Rustly Fremont lives in a city that is covered by green farms which have large trees growing in a straight line, there is a waterfall and a river close by, the setting which is a complete setting to make ones eyes rest and dream away that nothing does happen in this quite countryside town that has a population of about 2,500 people. The town is sand haven. For year’s tourist especially people who have just got married, young and old lovers alike have come to Sand Haven to beat the fast city life and enjoy the peace and tranquility that the town has to offer. Rustly Fremont is an average man with average looks and spends the day in cleaning up the towns most visited grocery store. He is thirty-seven years of age and has dark and dreamy eyes that can make a woman smile. On his left hand his pinky finger and his ring finger are webbed; he is a kind and generous person, he his ever ready to help both the young and the old. His job at the store is to make sure the meat and the vegetable store is kept clean, and to give a regular check that the front entrance is spotless. In addition to his job in his eagerness to help will sometimes help the older ladies and women with children to carry their groceries to the car, he shares a joke or two or the town latest news and views with the ever friendly town men who come in regularly to get a beer or a snack.
But all is not the way it seems in this town on how its treat’s Rustly Fremont. The town’s people seem to think that he is some kind of weirdo who has been cursed and is damned by his two fingers being webbed. Since the townsfolk think of him as being a total weirdo he is very often left alone and treated as if he is another waste paper bag that is just meant to do his job and nothing else.
Today not being a busy day Rustly is at the front entrance greeting customers, He meets the Sheriff and gives him a howdy sign and is replied back by the sheriff, after purchasing a few items the sheriffs heads back to his patrol car and sees Rustly trying to peek through his car, although he was just cleaning off some of the greasy garbage that got stuck by mistake while taking it out to the back. The sheriff disappointed by this act rudely pushes Rustly away and warns him never to come near his car again and is soon lost in the dust made by him speeding along the dust road.
But not of all of Sand Haven thinks of him in this way, a girl that lives a block a way, with long blonde hair, with an attractive figure and a womanly walk and a smile that can sweep any man of his feet thinks differently of him. Her name is Mary. Mary takes him for a friend, whom he can share and talk with. Walking by the river and sitting on the ledge near the waterfall that overlooks the town and the lush green hills and with daisies growing all around them, watching the sun would be an everyday event.
Rustly knew in his heart that she was the one for him and now at the age of thirty-seven decides to take the friendship to the next step and tells her abut the love that he feels for her and that he would want to marry her someday in the near future. Mary is shocked; she looks in his eyes and tells him that she had been waiting for him to ask her that question along time ago. They soon get into an intimate relation and they decide to get married. On hearing this Mary’s father is not pleased, sensing that the daughter will run away with Rustly he forbids her to go anywhere without his knowledge and to be back before dark. The townsfolk too were against this relationship and tried to convince her that the man was not the right one for her. Through all this Mary was still strong about her feelings about Rustly and soon after a good and long thought decided that Mary should run away with him in a not too distant town where Rustly had his relatives living there an old aunt who would love to have him and was calling on him to live for quite sometime. The shortest way to that town was via the bridge. The bridged crossed the river at the point where the currents were the strongest and the rocks that lay below it meant instant death to the person who jumped or accidentally fell over.
Rustly had some unfinished before he could make the trip but wanted that Mary to escape from the town by the next week. The plan was that he leaves Mary till the bridge and after that she would stay at the inn till his business was over.
The next week the papers had the news that Mary was killed by Rustly Fremont her body was found in the river. Her body had signs that she had struggled with her attackers. There was no clue as to who could have done this horrible act, but the fact that the place where her body was washed up the name Rustly was written by her in her blood.
Rustly is in shock and does not know what to say after he hears what happened to Mary and the evidence that the town’s sheriff will use to have him arrested. He was arrested a day later for the murder of Mary.
Till this day no one knows who killed Mary, or why did she do it if she killed herself. Why Rutly’s name was was written on the rocks? |
