The study of human
beings, human nature and human behavior has always
been an area of interest ever since man began
to think critically about his existence. This
critical approach helped man to uncover reasons
for the way that things generally were. Through
these studies, man was generally able to understand
the way that each human being thought and behaved,
and these were based on one’s origin and
culture in which each person was groomed. This
is something that explains the way that people
of different countries, nations, cultures, etc.
behave differently.
Up to date, studies in this same area continue
because there is still a great deal to be understood.
In addition to this lack of understanding, it
must be realized that even if things are all completely
explained, these studies have to be sustained.
This is because of the fact that evolutionary
changes in the human race are most likely to bring
about unforeseen transformations. Based on this
understanding, it is no wonder that political
anthropology also has immense interest in the
way that biology of particular nations affects
the way that they think and perceive the world.
The way that the modern world operates is a process
of which sustained study is applied to practical
life. Political anthropologists learn and understand
the way that people from different parts of the
world think and act. This enables them to carry
out their actions accordingly; they (political
anthropologists and those advised by them) act
in accordance with the mindset of people with
consideration for their area of origin. Statesmen
with such knowledge learn how to manipulate people
from particular regions because of the fact that
they know how particular people would react to
certain actions. They set up a number of possible
reactions that particular people would have to
their actions, and hence, further prepare to curtail
those reactions. However, aside from the political
and strategic implication of political anthropology,
it is more important to focus on how much relevance
‘biology’ has in this subject.
Since political anthropology has grave interest
in cultural aspects, it must be asserted that
biological factors have particular bearing. This
is because of the fact that biological development
and cultural grooming take place as an intertwined
process. This is due to the fact that they each
reinforce each other. Traditions that are engraved
in a particular culture are not easily erased,
and a re most likely to be passed on from generations.
In tandem, the consumption of food and behavioral
patterns induce particular psychological features
in human beings in particular areas. Hence, there
is a chain to follow that may be briefly mapped
as follows:
Origin > tradition development through random
action > adherence to those practices through
time > development of psychological and behavioral
patterns through these traditions
Having briefly asserted the general historic
pattern, it must also be pointed that variables
that sustain psychological and behavioral actions
are influenced immensely by things like types
of education, food consumption, religious beliefs,
cultural norms, etc. Each of these in one way
or another influence one’s biology, and
this is understood on the basis of physical and
psychological developments being influenced by
both internal as well as external influences.
Hence, it may be asserted for example, that people
who consume hot foods tend to think and act quicker
than others who have a balanced diet; people who
consume peppers tend to behave this way more than
others who consume insipid foods.
In addition to food consumption, the amount of
exposure to critical thinking is another example.
This is exemplified in the way that people in
the western hemisphere, particularly the US, tend
to think faster and be more innovative. This does
not undermine the genius innovations and inventions
from the East, but certainly does explain the
reason why one finds high profile statesmen more
often than not emerging from western countries.
It can be clearly seen that such statesmen and
therefore such cultures being way ahead of others.
The present situation in the world today is a
prime example, and this is because the US can
be recognized for its imperialistic approach,
to which several others have succumbed.
Finally, it may also be stated that food consumption
in the US is perhaps more than any other region
in the world. The value of their food per unit
as well counts significantly, as each unit is
more valuable than others. This results in greater
nutritional value, which means that it reinforces
their physical as well as psychological condition.
