I would like to go into nephrology because the scope and the research work that would be required of me is immense, my qualifications and previous education are described briefly below, which prove that I am liable to do them.
I am a pre-medical student but with a major in
religious studies, I have attended medical school
at St. Georges University of Medicine and I am
going to Grenada in West Indies and have showed
my determination to become a doctor. I attained
a residency in internal medicine at St. Luke's
Roosevelt Hospital, University Hospital of Columbia
& the University of Physicians and Surgeons.
Spending the past year at St. Lukes has been
enlightening. Exposure to various fields of internal
medicine has helped me isolate where I would like
to be in seven years. I would like to be a nephrologists
affiliated with a teaching hospital, with half
of my time spent in a teaching position. I was
first attracted to nephrology because of the variety
of arenas for its application. It has a definite
place in critical care, in general inpatient medical
floors and finally in the outpatient setting with
clinics and dialysis. Ultimately, I would like
to work in each of these areas.
I am currently working on research in determining whether evaluation of average grafts and average fistulas and their flow rates during dialysis are equivalent when analyzed in interventional procedure such as a venogram. My other research project is a retrospective analysis on radio contrast induced nephropathy and the use of saline solution, and acetlycysteine or both as prophylaxis.
In conclusion if I were given an opportunity to pursue this field. I will prove myself as a successful student. |
